History of UBM Overseas

UBM Overseas Ltd (UBMO) started life as the export department of UBM Building Supplies which was at the time reputed to be the largest group of Builders Merchants in Europe.  The head office was in Bristol, UK.

In 1971 UBM Overseas Ltd emerged as a separate company within the UBM Building Supplies group of companies and became a specialist supplier of construction materials to worldwide markets. Overseas joint venture companies were established in Nigeria, U.A.E, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kenya and Uganda.

In addition to supporting the overseas branches, UBMO continued to supply packages of materials to overseas contractors on major projects such as hotels, universities, hospitals, industrial and petrochemical plants. British and Overseas Government departments and the Ministry of Defence were also major clients.

In 1992 UBM Building Supplies was purchased by another UK based PLC and UBMO management were given the opportunity to stage a management buyout.

From that time until now, UBMO has remained a privately owned company and continues to service overseas clients in the same way that we have done for the last 50 years. We have regularly supplied materials to Middle East, Africa, and Eastern Europe.

UBM Overseas Ltd is now based in Clevedon which is just a few miles from the original office in Bristol and still employs some staff who have been with us since the company started trading.
